Mike studied under the tutelage of Peter Ottensmeyer (UToronto) and Werner Kühlbrandt (MPI-Biophysics, Frankfurt), and has specialised in cryo electron microscopy and methods development in electron tomography. He has worked on mitochondria, membrane proteins, cyanobacteria, bacterial spores, enzyme complexes, and chromatin structure. These days he plies his trade in the field of picornavirus cell entry by cryoEM and the structure determination of nanobodies.
